Today Jon
Cooper, President of Lighting Components and Design, Inc. (LC&D),
announced it signed a lease that will yield a 50% increase in its manufacturing
assembly capacity in Deerfield Beach Florida.
The need
for this increase is driven by record production demands. Three-month
sales through June 30th were up dramatically, 41% over the prior quarter
and 35% over last year's "going rate."
The president
went on to say: "This is the second major expansion in the company
in the past three years, and our third in the past 7 years.
"While
many of our operations are running 24-7, we strive to keep sufficient
reserve capacity on our prime shifts to handle both 'short term spurts'
and 'long term upward trends' in our sales volumes.
"The
jump in sales and incoming orders that occurred in the past quarter
is expected to continue through year end, and to grow even further in
the coming six to twelve months. Therefore it was only prudent for us
to acquire the additional capacity NOW.
"We
were able to take advantage of 'softness' in the South Florida real
estate market to lease space adjacent to our current plant, at extremely
favorable rates, and to have some site improvements funded by the owner.
"Furthermore,
we negotiated a deal whereby we would lease only half of the space for
the first six months and then automatically lease the rest of the property
in six months at the pre-negotiated rates.
"Forecasting
is an imprecise art at best, and this places us almost on a 'pay as
you need-it' basis, rather than forcing us to acquire excess facilities
well in advance of our needs.
"The
new space will be utilized to support increased in-house plastic injection
molding, to expand our wire processing capabilities, implement improvements
in materials flow and make 'quality of life' improvements for our employees
in the form of improved cafeteria facilities, work environment, etc.
"The recent leap in sales is entirely due to the host of new products
introduced in the past several months and is the fruition of our long
term multi-million dollar investment in manufacturing technology.
"Central to our business strategy is a long term multi-million
dollar investment in manufacturing technology and production facilities.
"This combination of technology and capacity enables us to introduce
new high technology products, shorten delivery schedules for existing
products and move into new product and market areas."
