Lighting
Components and Design, Inc., Manufacturer of the Leecraft and Littelites
Lines of Miniature Lights and Assemblies continue to enhance their
molding capabilities with the purchase of a Battenfeld BA2000/63
Injection molding machine combined with a FANUC M-6i B Robot from
FANUC Robotics North America, Inc., headquartered in Rochester Hills,
MI.
Lighting Components & Design,
Inc. has purchased a Battenfeld BA2000/630H + 400L Injection Molding
Machine with adaptive hydraulic
800mm rotary table with high torque screws for both injection units
with Unilog B4 controls to enhance their molding capabilities to include
two-shot molding from Battenfeld of America, Inc., headquartered in
West Warwick, RI. They have combined this molding machine with a FANUC
M-6i B Robot from FANUC Robotics North America, Inc., headquartered
in Rochester Hills, MI to further enhance the molding automation of
the BA2000.
The Battenfeld
BA 2000/630H will handle the two-material or multi-material injection
molding, “two-shot molding”. This is a mold-related
process during which two or more raw materials are injected into different
cavities or into two or more different molds. The rotary table allows
the die to rotate and the second injection of a different raw material.
The table offers high flexibility due to the removal of the turntable
and the large clamping surface. The table offers safety and maximum
tool protection due to quick rotating movements and damped final positions
and by turntable indexing device.
The FANUC M-6i B Robot features the highest motion speeds in its
class for maximum performance and productivity. The compact design
of the
servo- motors minimizes interference and simplifies installation of
the robot system. The extremely fast wrist axes reduce air move times,
thus improving throughput. The sealed bearings and brushless AC motor
drives provide protection and improve reliability.
Per Jacob
Rosales, LCD’s R&D Manger, “The advantages
of multi-material molding technology are the production of multi-functional
components with a variety of colors and/or raw materials without the
labor normally associated with standard molding.”
Vincent
Salvietti, PIM Manager agrees, “With the addition of
the Battenfeld BA2000/630H and the FANUC Robot, we are able to eliminate
a portion of the labor and free up time on the vertical molding machines.”
“We believe with this combination of molding and robotics, LCD
will reduce resin and maintenance costs, use less energy, simplify
and lower operational complexity, and make use of off-spec and regrind
materials”, affirms Ty Ramsey, VP of Performance Excellence.
“We believe with the addition of the BA2000/630H to our Molding
Department, LCD is more reactive to our customers design problems and
allows us to provide cost effective solutions to these problems and
adding value to our products,” said Jon Cooper, President.
