The first
meeting of Manufacturing Presidents following the successful September
10 SAVE FLORIDA MANUFACTURING initial meeting will be held this Thursday,
October 9. The meeting will be held in the conference room of Lighting
Components & Design of Deerfield Beach.
Jon Cooper, President of Lighting Components & Design,
was the most passionate speaker at the Sept. 10 meeting. He spoke
of his interest
in keeping his business in South Florida, and how difficult it is
to compete in today's price conscious world given some of the inherent
disadvantages Florida businesses face. He said he's willing to commit
to keeping his business in the state, but needs as much help as possible
in the form of workers comp reform, insurance cost relief, regulatory
relief, tax relief, and other help if he's going to assure his workers
and the community of his company's survival.
The Legislators
provided manufacturing presidents with a list of items for consideration
in the upcoming legislative session. While
that session
begins in early 2004, it is critically important for the manufacturers
to have an action plan and prioritization of issues decided well
in advance of the legislature officially beginning its meetings.
In order
to do this, manufacturing presidents are being asked to meet and
establish legislative priorities during the fall months. The first
of these meetings
is October 9.
